National Current Affairs WCD Ministry to set up Women’s Entrepreneurship Council The Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD) has proposed the setting up Women’s Entrepreneurship Council for taking up with the government the problems faced by business women. The Council will be modelled on the lines of chambers of commerce. It will seek to resolve issues through policy changes. Aadhaar mandatory for Students to get Mid-Day Meal The Union Human Resource Development Ministry has issued a notification making mandatory for students to have an Aadhaar card to get served cooked meal under the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) Scheme. The use of Aadhaar as identity document aims at improving efficiency and transparency in the scheme and simplifies government’s delivery process and subsidies. Besides, cook-cum-helpers engaged for preparing and serving midday meals will be paid honorarium by furnishing Aadhaar numbers of students. The government is implementing the MDM scheme to improve nutritional status of children under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. The meal is provided to students studying in classes from 1st to 8th in government or government aided schools or Special Training Centres or Madrasas or Maqtabs supported. India to host 10th International Conference on Theory and Practice of Electronic Governance India for first time will host International Conference on Theory and Practice of Electronic Governance (ICEGOV2017). It will be hosted in collaboration with United Nations University and UNESCO. The objective of ICEGOV2017 is to explore how Digital Government can lead to Digital Empowerment by local knowledge. This year it is the 10th edition of ICEGOV and it will focus on the use of technology to transform relationships between government and citizens, businesses, civil society. It will also try to inculcate an outlook to create new paradigms, forms, foundations for technology-enabled governance, development and collaboration States Current Affairs Punjab, J&K sign fresh pact on Shahpur Kandi Dam Project Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir have signed a Secretary level fresh pact for the fast-track completion of the much-delayed 206 megawatt (MW) Shahpur Kandi dam project on the Ravi river. It is located 11 km downstream Ranjit Sagar Dam. Shapur Kandi project was declared a national project in February 2008 by the Centre. Punjab will execute the project and committee headed by a member of Central Water Commission (CWC) will monitor it. 20 per cent of power generated from this project will be provided to J&K at the rate of Rs 3.50 per unit. Tirupati Airport renamed as Sri Venkateswara Airport Andhra Pradesh Government has renamed Tirupati Airport as Sri Venkateswara Airport and Gannavaram Airport as NTR Amaravati Airport and. In this regard proposals was sent to the Centre for approval. It also approved 600 acre land allocation for Bhogapuram Airport and 75 acres for Savita University in the capital Amaravati. It also decided to float new liquor policy by introducing amendments in the Assembly. It also cleared the proposals of allotting land for Energy University at Penukonda in Anantapur district and Logistic Park at Kakinada. Assam government makes Sanskrit education compulsory The Assam government has made Sanskrit education compulsory in all state board schools till Class VIII. Decision in this regard, was taken at state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The state cabinet also created a post to monitor cleanliness in government-run schools under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. State government has also decided to appoint a computer teacher in all high schools to provide students access to computer education. Persons in News Veteran politician, former MP Yumnam Yaima Singh passes away Veteran Manipuri politician and former Member of Parliament Yumnam Yaima Singh passed away in Imphal after a brief illness. He was 95. He was first elected to the Territorial Council in 1957. Later he was elected seven times continuously to Manipur Assembly from Oinam Constituency from 1962 to 1985. In the state, he had held various Ministerial post such as Education, Law & Legislative Affairs, IFCD. He also was Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly form 1980 -85. He was elected to the 10th Lok Sabha in 1991 from Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency. He was a brilliant writer and had writted a book titled “A Piece of Tenth Lok Sabha”. Banking, Business & Economy Current Affairs India to lead world in smart phone adoption: GSMA Report According to recently released GSM Association report, India will lead the world in smart phone adoption with a net addition of 350 million connections in 2016-20.The estimates were based on the GSMA Intelligence Consumer Survey 2016 conducted across 56 countries on the mobile usage trend. The developing world will add 1.6 billion smartphone connections between now and 2020. It will be led by India, China and Indonesia. By the end of 2016, smart phones accounted for 51% of mobile connections in developing world. In the developed world, smartphone penetration was 65% at the end of 2016. China to build underwater observatory in S China Sea According to reports, China is planning to build its first national underwater observatory in the disputed South China Sea (SCS). The observatory will allow China to keep a check on underwater physical, chemical, and geological dynamics in real time. The construction work on the platform will be done with the help of Institute of Acoustics and Shanghai’s Tongji University. South China Sea has been a disputed territory with China claiming almost all of the waters. It carries third of the world’s maritime traffic and has huge amounts of oil and natural gas. Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan also are claiming over the waters of SCS.
